Natural Iowa History: 2000
Y2K was a fantastic year for IT departments everywhere and the NANBF Natural lowa as well! As we look back upon the 7th anniversary of this competition, popularity of natural bodybuilding was continuing to grow along with the quality of the competitors.
In women’s bodybuilding, Julie O’Brien took home the overall and natural pro card with her excellent combination of size, symmetry and conditioning, along with some great posing!
For men’s bodybuilding, a massive Lamont Gilchrist won the overall up against a stacked lineup of class winners. Not only was Gilchrist huge, but shredded and pulled off a flip during his routine!
In Xtreme Fit, Courtney Steverson wowed the audience with her display of athletic ability, conditioning, flexibility and physical strength in not just her routine but with her physique as well.
2000 was also the year we too soon lost a legend in natural bodybuilding, 1994 Mr. Natural lowa Karl Schneider. On this year the Karl Schneider Sportsmanship Memorial award was created in his memory and has been awarded since to an individual who exemplifies his dedication to the sport.
